Counter weight shaft modification for a Atlas EQ-G telescope equatorial mount.
The new counter weight shaft was made from 1" round stainless steel 303 rod 23" long. The length of the counter weight shaft was lengthen from 12" to 18". The bearing retainer nut was boared out to accept a 7/8" X 14 thread. The shaft was turned on a Harbor Freight 7" X 10" mini lathe, about 5 hours to complete this project. The shaft extends 4-1/4" into the dec. shaft adding extra support for the bearing retainer nut.
